I called the manager. đŸ˜© A security guard would not stop starring at my ass (like his eyes stuck on it & jaw open for 3 min), so I asked him if he could please stop as it was making me uncomfortable. He then comes inches away from me saying I was stealing a box of cereal (???)...
I was literally at the till buying my groceries where I have shopped for about 20 years. So I asked him to move back as he was not abiding by social distancing. Then all of a sudden 3 new guards arrived screaming at me also getting close.
This is all for *thinking* I stole a huge box of cereal? Not even sure where I would hide that (I was wearing short shorts & a T-shirt w/ just my wallet & phone in my hands). All huge men yelling at me. Nam and I were wearing our Indigenous masks.
Not saying it was racist for them to bring in backup like that & assume I stole a box of cereal but I’ve never been treated like that without cues that I'm Indigenous & I’m light skin/can pass as white so I don’t think it’s a leap.
Regardless, it was disgusting behaviour & I called the manager. Little Nam was there & I was feeling horrible for him. After we left I said, “was I acting like a Karen for calling the manager?” & he said, “mom, I think you're deadly.” Aww.
Nam also said what I did was awesome bc the guy was being creepy w/ other women. Vigilante Security. Really poor management too.Told me he'd only take the guards word. Shoppers Drug Mart is taking it seriously. We will see what Kingsgate Mall does. Anyways, I called the managerđŸ„Ž
I really really hope @ShopprsDrugMart and @kingsgatemall take this seriously. If their security guards are not taking social distancing seriously AND sexually harassing and screaming at an Indigenous woman and her young son, while literally buying groceries, no one is safe.
