Controversial opinion: Racism and Oppression that Canadian Indigenous folks experience is not the same that U.S. Indigenous folks experience
Of course Indigenous folks in America have it really bad and no way am i denying that. But on native twitter, native folks in the states talk about the benefits they have reaped especially with the 5 civilized tribes which were only in America apparently
And that a lot of Native Americans got accepted into Harvard too (i don’t remember the time period) and so on, when reading this i felt confused and frustrated because when Native Americans were talking about advantages, that it does not imply to Native Canadians
Indigenous folks in Canada, our relationship with Canada the government the church and the queen is horrific and to this day still very horrific. It seems that nothing has changed for us except that we have modernized and that we have been given some privileges and freedoms
*canadian government
We also have one of the most racist legislation pieces called the Indian act which is created by Canada. Our relationship as indigenous folks with racism and oppression between Canada and America, I feel is a lot different today in modern society -
But I’m not from America, the only reason why I made this thread is because I’ve been reading what native Twitter from America talks about usually. If you are indigenous and from the states let me know what I could be wrong about. This is just my observation.
