I am SO tired of people using mental health side effects or disorders as horror tropes. I'm so sick of it.
Like... yeah, delusions are scary. They're terrifying. But can we stop using them to twist a story, that the TRUE horrors, the scariest thing of a terrifying movie, is that the main character is ~~IN A MENTAL INSTITUTION~~ and ~~IT WAS ALL A HALLUCINATION~~
because REAL PEOPLE deal with that sh*t. and they live with it. you probably know someone who has delusions or hallucinations, and you don't even realize.
DID/OSDD systems don't ACTUALLY have a murderer just lying in wait within themselves. it's just not a real thing. Systems are created out of childhood trauma to protect the body. Alters are no more potential serial killers than you.
auditory hallucinations aren't going to make someone snap and start murdering people left and right. Schizophrenic people aren't anyone to be afraid of.
there's SO much more I could talk about on this thread, but there's not enough time or energy in the world to cover it all. feel free to take this on in the replies.
but i would like to stress: You probably know people with conditions like these and more, and you don't even know

Pushing these horror tropes and stereotypes does nothing but make them want to hide themselves further. You're not in danger. You're hurting them.
Stop.
Stop.
