What sources say is not taken at face value, and goes through rigorous checks and verification before publication. That is indeed journalism.
It’s only by being open to the public about how newsgathering works in reality we can counter this kind of false narrative - which sounds plausible to many - I mean would you believe something whispered anonymously? It needs to be clearer that’s not how anonymous sources work.
