The movement to rejoin the European Union starts outside of mainstream political parties. It starts with @youngeuromove, it starts with @euromove. Years will pass, maybe decades. Not only must we convince Brits to rejoin, we must convince our allies of our renewed commitment.
Lots of bridges have been burned in our name. We may not like it, but the chance to undo that quickly has passed with the 2019 election. It is now a long game.
For now, it is up to us to continue building the fastest growing pro-European movement on the continent. A close relationship and a hard selling of the *idea* of Europe to a still sceptic public.
Those of us who are pro-European must be unapologetic. We must begin arguing for 'ever closer union' while it's an abstract idea rather than perceived reality. Federalists must use that 'F' word, and we should stop hiding under the imperfect idea of intergovernmentalism.
British values, freedoms and qualities are best defended from within our European family in this turbulent world. It's time that we level with the British public that the sacrifices of going alone are all that which we hold dear.
