was musing on why there are so many pro-capitalist armys and i think i got it: bts is the poster child of the capitalist idea that success can be attained from nothing through hard work and talent. armys take pride in bts’s impact and influence, +
and because bts credits armys to their international success, armys feel a connection to the narrative that hard work will guarantee success and wealth like it did for bts.
to add onto this, it makes sense that there are so many communist orbits, even though to locals or people detached from kpop, both fandoms seem very similar with how passionately they promote their groups. even i was shocked to realize loona wasn’t that successful in korea.
it’s kind of heartbreaking because bts isn’t the norm. they’re the exception. so many groups with just as much talent and passion fall through the cracks, and bts could’ve been one of them. capitalism works like that, and i wish more armys were able to see it.
