THREAD: New FOIA docs we obtained from the @NatlParkService show @DHSgov ignoring almost every single request made by federal scientists & land managers to protect wildlife when building the #BorderWall at Organ Pipe.

DHS failed/ignored each NPS recommendation highlighted below:
FAILED: Increase distance between bollards to maximum allowable (for wildlife considerations, no less than 6” if possible) to reduce the number of species affected. /2
FAILED: Retain the height of the current pedestrian fence at 18 feet... as there are several bird and bat species that are not likely to fly over a height of 30 feet. /3
FAILED: Consider all options to facilitate select wildlife movement corridors (i.e., gates, use of electronic or other surveillance, bollard barriers in lieu of fence) to enable movement of larger species such as the endangered Sonoran pronghorn and desert bighorn sheep. /4
FAILED: Retain current roads and minimize operational footprint to reduce habitat loss and areas of disturbance. /5
FAILED: Avoid lighting, bollards, and water use within the Quitobaquito basin... These measures would help lessen adverse effects on several federally-listed species. /6
FAILED: Work with park personnel to install a small (e.g., three foot) contiguous drift fence at the 60-foot edge of construction activities, so that small terrestrial wildlife can be moved outside of the construction footprint. /7
. @DHSgov has steamrolled federal land managers, muzzled career scientists & ignored Tribal leaders to build the wall. They've blown up Indigenous sacred sites & pushed endangered species to the brink of extinction w/o batting an eye.

This is an agency of boundless cruelty.
