Blackness is not just socialization. Someone who’s had no interaction w/ this society whatsoever but has dark skin, kinky hair & “black features” will be treated as Blk by this society’s systems the instant they interact w/ it. This is what I wish folks wld stop being fake about.
People pretend that there’s no such thing as phenotypical Blackness when discrimination against phenotypical Blackness is exactly how you end up with white people in blackface getting promoted over people who are unambiguously Black. This is what colorism is all about.
Yes, everyone is aware that Black people come in all shades. That’s a separate issue from why the most white-approximating Black people & blackfishing white people receive social benefits & professional promotions that unambiguously Black people do not.
