Do you know works that discuss philosophical thinking outside of large-scale traditions, e.g., hunter-gatherers, pastoralists, horticulturalists? I mean: thinking of ultimate reality, ethics, etc.
@CathrynTownsend @lastpositivist @NeuroYogacara @Anthrofuentes -- thoughts?
Background for this: I read so often that philosophy is something that only really took off with Axial age large-scale societies, but I can't but feel skeptical. Does philosophizing really depend on having a big, unequal society with literacy etc.?
Further adding: I'm of course aware of Africana, Native etc. philosophies, which make claims that relate philosophy to large-scale societies puzzling. See e.g.: humans went from a "narrative and analogical style to a more analytical and reflective style" https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/19420889.2015.1046657
