The whole “I’m socially conservative, nationalist and anti-free market” is literally the underpinnings of fascism. https://twitter.com/charliekirk11/status/1301952438266552321
Not to say that Kirk or anyone in the GOP is fascist. That requires a level of violence not even close to being seen and is a false equivalency that diminishes the suffering of those who suffered under such regimes. But, it is undoubtably a strange sort of anti-liberal
Fascism lite so to speak. You see it in a lot of places, particularly in parts of Central and Eastern Europe. Most people refer to it as populism. But make no mistake, this ideaology is a dangerous one and almost always has underpinnings of xenophobia and racism.
Trump is a strange phenomenon because he’s more a cult of personality. His positions shift regularly and all the sheep he needs around tend to fall in line with whatever. Poll after poll shows this. But I worry what this new wave of conservatism will make the GOP look like-
In the election cycle and even 10-20 years down the road. I fear the polarization won’t end with Trump and radicals on the left and the right will continue to promote right wing populist and socialist ideas into the mainstream, further poisoning the politics of our country.
