How useful/necessary is the traffic light system on food REALLY? I recovered from anorexia, spent the past 3 years in Austria where this isn’t a thing. Hardly any problems.
Move back to the U.K., where this stuff is plastered all over food. Noticed it starts to trigger compulsions towards eating disordered behaviour.
Thankfully, I’m at a point in my recovery where I can notice and manage these things incredibly easily. Not everyone is in that position.
How many people with eating disorders are forced to struggle more on a daily basis because of this? How many people struggle with disordered eating (and not necessarily EDs) because of this totally unnecessary traffic light system?
Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of all mental illnesses. When world mental health day rolls around, everyone talks about how they’re there to help and support us, but when we say what we want, we’re told we are being too sensitive.
Eating disorders kill. This traffic light system is bullshit. Not everyone is as lucky as me to be in a position to successfully and easily manage thoughts and compulsions.
@drjoshuawolrich on the off chance you see this thread, I would LOVE to know your thoughts on this system.
