I generally advise folks not to do interviews with V*ce. I know there's some people there who try to do good work, but I find the outlet very, very untrustworthy. Of course i feel that way about a lot of media
I don't understand what exactly happened yesterday and we may never know, I'm just sharing my unsolicited take on that.
one of the big concerns we had working with prisoners was the lack of interest V*ce had in trying to protect their identities, while on the flip side the offer was "huge platform" but with no support for the violence that platform could create for prisoners
this puts prisoners in a difficult place, they can have a big audience, but that audience will mean they are personally harmed as a result. And that the outlet won't do anything to raise awareness about that harm after the fact.
v*ce taps into the viewers desire for voyuerism into different spaces that are often out of their view. But as an outlet they have always seemed okay or disinterested (or worse possibly complicit) with *whatever* the consequences of that voyeurism are.
