Let me address this once and for all in a comprehensive manner so you'll understand the point of why we shouldn't use the term pedophile so CASUALLY. I also wanted to stress the fact that unlike you Yma, I consulted an actual psychometrician before any of this fiasco.
We often use labels to describe or make judgments about a certain thing or even a person, it is useful for it can capture a complex idea or concept into a single word, allowing us to communicate this set of ideas in shorthand that is fairly easy to understand.
However, we need to understand also that because of this fact, labels are often inadequate and can be easily misused or used interchangeably when they should not be especially by a NON-PROFESSIONAL. This is dangerous for it can reinforce the support of existing misconceptions.
In this case, you've interchangeably used pedophile & sexual predator, correlating it in the case of Matt. “Pedophile” is a CLINICAL term describing a person who has a psychological disorder that causes the person to have a primary or exclusive sexual attraction to children. [1]
While it is easy to associate pedophilia with sexual predators, it is worth noting that there are studies showing that there are people who are diagnosed with this disorder and have not acted upon their attraction to children. This distinction is enough & we need to draw a line.
Why do we need to draw this line of demarcation? Because categorizing sexual offenders as pedophiles based on lack of information is dangerous, studies suggest that sexual attraction to children is NOT a prerequisite to sexual molesters of children.
This means sexually abusing children is not confined only to pedophiles but EVERYONE has a capacity for that heinous act. For example, there are cases where a predator did not seek an opportunity to abuse a child but found themselves in a situation that enabled them to do so.
The mere fact that I categorize pedophilia as a disorder like most psychiatric and psychologist organizations means I do not seek to rationalize, child sexual abuse is and still MORALLY WRONG. However, we need to have an informed and well-educated judgment...
as to not undermine the mental health professionals who are the only ones capable of diagnosing mental health disorders by careful application and integration of their assessment results from their sets of diagnostic criteria.
Registered psychologists & psychometricians, and other mental allied health professionals have the sole duty to make these judgments as to if a person is a pedophile or not, same as with, we cannot make a self-diagnosis of ourselves if we have a mental illness (bipolar disorder).
The mere fact that you Yma chose to misconstrue my statements and intentions in public is a glaring disposition of your lack of comprehension [2]. Never did I justify if Bugoy and EJ did is right. To assume is ludicrous and ignorant.
Do you still remember how you cannot even discern how did you become an enabler to Matt's predatory behavior? Maybe perhaps since you brought up this topic, you might wish to remind you? How fortunate of you that I would not resort to these tactics, not anymore.
I've been advocating for safer space in our community for two years already that's why slandering my reputation without bringing substantial arguments that are not based on presumption and societal prejudices on the table is absurd.
