The past few days has shown there’s a lack of understanding of how these production deals work but the UK media are also capitalizing on that ignorance to deliberately distort & diminish the value of the deal. It’s honestly sad & further shows the bias present in UK reporting. 1/
They can write all the opinion pieces they want outlining their anger at H&M signing this deal & why they don’t deserve it because reasons. It’s just an extension of the months long temper tantrum from an embittered & embattled press pack that has become a worldwide spectacle. 2/
But to bring out every crank to lie about undisclosed deal terms is ridiculous & IMO unethical. The deal is lucrative w/ a high 8 to low 9 figures guaranteed for signing & add’l incentives based on performance against internal Netflix metrics & external (i.e. Oscars, Emmys). 3/
Those things are industry standard. Even if a show never makes it on air H&M just got substantially richer. To suggest otherwise is just a lie to placate conspiracy theorists & bitter Beckys (in & outside of the media) still praying for H&M’s comeuppance. 4/
For those folks, I say stay mad. A production deal & speakers’ bureau were the most obvious next steps towards financial independence. Anyone who is “shocked” hasn’t been paying attention. The thing that should keep u up at night are the deals we can’t predict. They’re coming. End
