Pedophile =/= MAP. All pedophiles are MAPs, but not all MAPs are pedophiles. Some other MAP terms that fall under this umbrella are nepiophile, hebephile, and ephebophile.

MAP is actually not used to sugarcoat pedophilia. I forget the name of the group who initially coined the term, but they’re a support group (I think?) based on MAPs. Many psychologists use the term MAP to cover us, as well. Example shown below.

Wanting to rape children =/= pedophilia. Wanting to rape children is the desire that child molesters and rapists have. However, MAPs typically do not want to act on the attraction, as they already know the consequences of said action.
