I wasn’t in the press conference this week as I’m on annual leave but here is the pertinent info focusing on Corby. It covers the week up to August 30.

Today, the government added Corby to its coronavirus watchlist after a ‘significant rise’ in cases. 1
Key is this line: ‘an increase in PERCENTAGE of tests turning positive’.

So many are saying on FB ‘well we’re increasing testing so there’s bound to be more positives’. Yes, true, but also the PERCENTAGE of those tests which are positive has significantly increased. 2.
Here’s a table showing the change in cases. Up 39 in Corby. A significant change. (Last week, it was up 17 and the week before, by 14. We’ve had full-time testing in Corby for six weeks now.) 3.
Corby is now classed as having a significantly higher rate of infection, cumulatively, than the average rate in England. It has previously been in the 500s and ‘similar’. 4.
Here’s the graph showing a clear, sharp rise in cases in Corby (in red) during the past couple of weeks. You can see case number red had been fairly slow-rising since mid-May. 5.
This graph shows the rate of positive cases per 100,000 people in the past 7 days. Corby is in yellow.

Worth noting every borough in our county except East Northants has had almost full-time testing for several weeks now. None have experienced a recent spike like Corby. 6.
Cases in the past 28 days, showing peaks in Corby Village & Weldon (which, significantly, includes Priors Hall where there’s a fairly young population). Snatchill also includes Oakley Vale. 7.
Here’s where the outbreaks have been. Doesn’t really shed much light. No single outbreak has contributed to the high number of cases. 8.
This next graph is more up to date. It’s the PHE data showing cases up to today (although there’s a couple of days’ delay in some test results coming back). There’s a very clear second peak emerging. Seven cases recorded today, attributed to the past 4-5 days. 9.
Here’s the data for the past couple of weeks. Two big days last week. Again, worth noting that there may well be more cases to add on to the past four days or so. 10.
And finally, the hotspot map. Corby rapidly turning blue. 11.
