Being Libertarian is less about words and more about action. Are you choosing to overcome your challenges, build community and voice your values in community and enterprise as a producer and consumer? The goal of our words should be to inspire action.
I am a Libertarian party member not to signal to the world that I am a libertarian but because it’s the only vehicle that while not perfect has libertarian action at the core of what drives members on the ground where it matters.
I’ve been a Democrat and Republican and in both always felt inspiring people to take control of their lives wasn’t even on the list of priorities as the more people look to themselves for empowerment the less they look to politicians for spoils.
Any attempt at inspiration in the red or blue teams was always to inspire people to delegate their power to someone else and to feel that was action. To build the myth that only party elite can solve their problems.
The LP with all its flaws is diverse in membership and message and has a culture where party elites are frankly powerless and an individual member can be as powerful to change the world as they chose. No one truly speaks for the body as we are truly a group of individuals.
It’s that power one person can have that inspires me and what I find inspiring about how the LP and the broader libertarian message works. You don’t need permission to change the world, just change it.
