A, hopefully inspirational, thread:

Today marks just over a year I went freelance. It's been an incredible journey for anyone considering the same. In the last 12 months I've:
- Had a record breaking month, month on month
- Got stranded in Australia for 3 months with no worries as I could still work as normal
- Started a second "consultancy" with @Suganthanmn 4 weeks ago which has signed a new client every week since
- Started learning python with decent(ish) progress

- Started learning python with decent(ish) progress
- Built 4 SEO tools (with some help). Just waiting to get them online for others to use
- Met some incredible people and contacts that I wouldn't have met otherwise. A large part of this owes it's thanks to:
@OfflineTake and @TTTSEOCommunity

What have I learnt?
- Put yourself out there. Go to conferences. And go on your own. It'll force you to meet and speak to people like @Suganthanmn, @dergal, @MrLukeCarthy, @defaced and @CarrieRosePR. You'll literally learn and network with the very best.

- Don't be afraid to ask questions. There is no such thing as a stupid question. No one knows everything. And if u learn something new, post it on twitter. Even if it's not "new", there will be someone who doesn't know it. Anyone who trolls u on either of these is just a douche.
- Always challenge your opinions. Opinions are like arseholes, everyone has them. Unlike arseholes, yours should be regularly examined. Identify your biases and be open minded about what others say
- Be happy, sure, but don't be "content". Strive to learn more, keep improving, keep your clients traffic improving. Don't rest on your laurels. We didn't evolve to be content. Contented Homo Erectus got eaten before passing on their genes.
- Don't have one client that accounts for more than 40% of your income. That's a lot of eggs in one basket...
Finally - be kind. There is far far too much back stabbing and snide comments for my liking.
Here's to another successful 12 months

Oh and one more - follow @tom_hirst, his tweets are more logical than any of this random diatribe I've just posted
