Like many of you - Having spent what seems like an eternity on zoom meetings the past few days here is what I have discerned #bced 2/
/ The return to school plan and the process is raising anxiety levels and fears in those working in schools, parents who are sending their children to school, children in school, and all those who love those in any of the above categories. 3/
/ Teachers and support workers are doing everything they can to make sure the transition back is the best it can be 4/
/ School admins have gone above and beyond to make sure everyone is as safe as possible and school is organized for return next week. 5/
/ Senior admin have done all they can to make sure their district has what is necessary to function and stay safe 6/
/ Parents and other advocates have banded together like never before to make sure schools have all that is necessary for a safe and productive return. 7/
/ It did not have to be this way 8/
/ We started out poorly after all the cuts by the previous Liberal government left BC Public Schools far behind - 1800.00 per student less than national average - forcing every school to cut corners over the years. 9/
/ There have been massive # of unexplained inconsistencies coming from the provincial level - most notably in the areas of mixed messages on acceptable protocols and reality within schools 10/
/ The provincial government has all but refused to spend any money on making schools safe 11/
/ Keep asking your local Admins for what you need and to make sure protocols are being followed. 12/
/ Keep pressing on your Trustees to spend the new $ they have on lowering class sizes and making buildings safe - and to keep lobbying the provincial government for more funds. 13/
/ - Keep pressure on your MLAs and Minister Fleming to do better. Demand them to be more consistent and realistic in the messaging, provide more funding for safe schools, and listen to those at the schools when they say this just isn’t possible and find a way to help. 15/
/ As a society - our children and those who work with them are counting on all of us to make sure schools are as safe as can be and they have the tools to be productive.
