2 horrifying videos of a Syrian child being tortured have gone viral over the past day among Syrians on social media. The videos are being shared w/ the claim that the Turkish-backed Syrian factions in Syria were torturing the child for ransom. The claim is false.
The torturer is one of the child& #39;s female relatives. A prominent Syrian verification website @VeSyria disproved the claims of the factions& #39; involvement. The child lived in Atmeh, not even an area under the control of Turkey& #39;s factions. https://www.verify-sy.com/ar/details/1709/%D9%87%D9%84-%D8%B9%D9%86%D9%91%D9%81%D8%AA-%D8%B9%D8%B5%D8%A7%D8%A8%D8%A9-%D9%87%D8%B0%D8%A7-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B7%D9%81%D9%84-%D9%81%D9%8A-%D8%AA%D8%B3%D8%AC%D9%8A%D9%84-%D9%85%D8%B5%D9%88%D9%91%D8%B1%D8%9F">https://www.verify-sy.com/ar/detail...
Despite this, some Syrians refuse to believe the debunking, insisting the Turkish-backed factions (so called National Army) are somehow involved. This refusal comes from both Kurds & Arabs. Just goes to show to what low the reputation of these factions has sunk.
The poor reputation of the Turkish-backed factions is deserved: they& #39;ve engaged in kidnappings for ransom, torture in prison, rape, drug-smuggling, human trafficking, arrests of opponents & protection rackets. https://www.nybooks.com/daily/2019/11/27/who-are-turkeys-proxy-fighters-in-syria/">https://www.nybooks.com/daily/201... Yet, they did not torture that boy.
