Few weeks back I did an opposition analysis using data for 1st time.
It was totally new territory for me. I asked the coaching team what they want and based on that discussion, I presented some slides with help of video analyst. Thankfully, coaching team was happy with it.

I am unfortunately not allowed to share the details in public. So, I have done the next best thing.
I have used the upcoming match between @KAAGent vs @skrapid as an example.
I have created some similar viz that I created for my opposition analysis.
This is pretty basic.

I have not done everything, some of it and at some points I have cut corners here (used @smarterscout for player radar)
So, here it how I did it -
Playing style viz & Team formation, xG Vs xA treemap, Sidedness, Ball Progression tree map, shot map for CFs, players to watch

1st - Team playing style
This playing style shows that - @skrapid had problem with losing balls in own half.
They used long balls quite often.
They were not overly dependent on either positional attack/counter-attack.
They were a mid-block team.

2nd - Formations
Despite 4 at the back systems having more %, in last 10 matches of the 2019-20 league, @skrapid played with only 3 at the back system (3-4-1-2/3-4-2-1).
However in their last UCL qualifying match they played with a 4 back system.

3rd - Attack contribution treemap
excludes players <450 mins. So Ercan Kara does not feature.
But in recent matches, Ercan Kara has played quite often (438 minutes, 3 goals from 2.11 xG, 1 assist for 0.94 xA).
Schobesberger’s ACL injury means he is still out of action.

4th - Ball Progression treemap
Again excludes players <450 mins
It shows who moves the ball forward via passes and who via carries for @skrapid

Attack sidedness -
The attack sidedness shows that they are more left sided but had less success there. There center attacks were most suceesful despite being low in total numbers.

Finally, player to watch - I identified two players -
T Murg who is very good in dribbles and carrying the ball
E Kara who is having a meteoric rise. He is a tall, big striker who is very good in air.

So, this is the end of the tread. There were other things I did for my opposition analysis for the club I work with but this should give you an idea what was expected from me by the coaching stuff.
