When u think of the context of how 7 Rings was written: Ariana having a bad depressive episode mourning someoneâs death and the end of her engagement so her friends flew to her NY to be w her and they ended up getting Champaign-drunk and she bought 7 Tiffany rings for them all...
u get a level of understanding and new appreciation for this song, for how it came to be and what her n her friends being in the studio did for her. Remember they were all there to comfort her and somehow thank u next (the album) happened

Ariana having co-writers on her recent projects doesnât reflect her writing capabilities, period. Itâs important to acknowledge that sheâs the kind of person who recognizes the benefit of collaborations that involves a variety of talent and she even lifts ppl up before herself
In terms of 7 Rings we know verbatim that she made the song w her friends. We know the writers and the producers and who she samples, and the true nature of how âsongwritingâ credits are distributed (which is often ignored by yâall weird stans arguing still)
For a group of ppl who champion profound meanings behind songs why is it so hard to realize this song was made during a moment where a severely depressed woman felt she could breathe for a second bc she was surrounded by the support of her friends + retail therapy
If youâve ever experienced the truly debilitating and soul-draining nature of depression perhaps the story behind this song hits different. I personally know the weirdly but wonderful temp healing buying nice things for yourself does for your depression, so yea it hit

7 Rings was a fun song that I canât relate to (as a broke) but the spirit of getting through itâą by treating yourself and ppl u care ab / spending time w the ppl u love in life was not lost for me, and thatâs my connection w the song.
How music makes u feel, how it heals u, influences u etc, shouldnât be dictated by numbers; distribution of credits, sales, chart positions, etc. donât dictate a good / bad song. How a song impacts u is RELATIVE and itâs ridiculous to render emotion into something a quantitative
If u choose to focus your ears on the technical aspects of songs for analysis, thatâs cool ! production is a huge part of songs that often get ignored in terms of talent. Ariana can vocal produce herself live and in the studio but this is rarely acknowledged let alone praised
Arianaâs blessed to have such talented close friends whoâre also her collaborators, and so they frequently appear on her projects. She makes a point to always publicly support them and she doesnât hide them behind her, tending to literally bring them into an interview w her
This is just another thing I think ab sometimes. How rare it is for pop acts to be this transparent ab their work and who they work w. This is someon who recognized their privilege and the impact of their new level of success and used it to help get her friends to a new level too
This kind of turned into a think piece but this is like more than a year in the making cause some of yâall canât let go of the fact 7 Rings was a smash, as was the huge success that came afterward

Itâs honestly better for your mental health and less exhausting to just appreciate music for its power to evoke feeling and generate a sensory overload of feeling okay for a good 3-5 mins lol instead of stressing
