I have noticed a huge increase in authors signing me up to their mailing lists without consent by taking my email from my website. I know for a fact they did this because the email on my website is only used for web communications, I sign up to NLs with a different email.

Let’s discuss this from a marketing perspective since you clearly don’t care about the ethics. A NL is the most valuable data authors have. This is a list of people GUARANTEED to give a fuck about your books. We know they GAF bc they CHOSE to give you their personal info.

So it is in your best interests to keep the list genuine. When it’s a list of people who KNOW you and LIKE your stuff, they will open your emails and click your links. This improves your deliverability so your campaigns actually reach inboxes.

When you have a list full of people who’ve never fucking heard of you, they will 9 times out of 10 say “who the hell is this” and delete you, or mark you as spam. Which reduces your deliverability factor until even the people who DO care, simply aren’t receiving your emails.

So stop clogging up my inbox by nefarious means!!! Also cannot believe I have just written out a lil marketing thread purely to stop people misusing my info. Stop being a prat or who knows what I will be forced to tweet next!!!! Probably graphs
