< Thread: Why I decided to loose weight >

I wanted to sharing this story in the hopes that it might help someone who is going through similar circumstances.
The MAIN reason to start exercising and loosing weight was to get my periods back to normal.

I started my periods at the age of 13. They were mostly regular. 4-5 days a month.

As puberty kicked in, I started to gain a little weight, body hair etc. My mum would always +
tell me, "Don't worry. You are going through puberty and your weight will not be an issue as you grow older (i.e after 18 y/o)." I believed her and went about with my life.

When I was 15, we shifted to a new place. That's when the 'issues' with began. I had +
an extreme allergic reaction to mulberry bushes (pollen). I never had any type of allergy before. So, it came a surprise to everyone. I used to have breathlessness, sinus, cough, etc. Hence, I started to take a lot of medication. I was also on nebulisation. The huge amount of+
medication messed with my system. The side effects of taking them not only effected my periods but also my mental health. I stopped having periods all together. I also gained significant amount of weight despite exercising regularly. +
We consulted many gynaecologists. A few of them diagnosed me for pcod/pcos.

However, I didn't have any cyst formation.

So, they just told me to go on a diet and loose weight. (By dieting, they meant cutting down the portions of food and no junk food) +
I mostly ate healthy since a very young age (I wasn't really into junk food). My food portion size was average. I didn't overeat.

The gynaes put me on birth control pills, so that I can get my periods back.

Guess what? It helped.

BUT I gain 2-3 kgs in 3 months because of+
those pills (despite eating healthy and regular exercising).

I then stoped taking the pill eventough I still wasn't having regular periods.

As I graduated High School, I moved away for college. I wasn't taking any pills for my allergy or periods +
My periods were still not regular in college. But fortunately, I wasn't gaining significant amount of weight.

I gained around 3-4 kgs in 4 years of college. Which was not bad considering the fact that I was extremely lazy and didn't exercise. It was a gradual weight gain which+
was definitely better than my high school days.

After graduating college, I decided to take some time off and just focus on my health.

The MAIN reason to start exercising and loosing weight was to get my periods back to normal. +
I exercised 5-6 days a week, ate healthy, no dietary restrictions, no medications. Nothing.
After a year of exercising and healthy eating, I FINALLY have regular periods.

I still haven't lost the weight I though I'd loose. But, that's COMPLETELY fine! As long as I am healthy.+
These are some things I have learnt in the past 8-9 years:

1. Loosing weight should be a personal goal. It is a personal experience. Do it because you want to.

2. Weight loss is about the journey. Enjoy and trust the process. :)

+
3. You don't have to cut down on food or restrict your diet. Eat healthy and enjoy your food!

4. Instant results are not a guarantee. It took me 8-9 years to finally become healthier, physically and mentally. I am still getting better. But, I am not rushing it.

+
5. Healthy body results in a healthy mindset.

6. Our bodies are very self-sufficient. So, please take care of yourselves and stay healthy! ❤️
