On the issues of ethics in photography..
Regarding Mercy's image:
for years I have taken photos of issues which need attention and support. I retain copyright and have stringent licence conditions for use of images. It should never be to the detriment of subjects depicted.

I have donated many images to Refugee Survival Trust, over the years, as I believe in what they do and the issues they support. My images of Mercy were for RST's campaigns. Mercy supported these and willingly helped with the photos.

Last week, after Mercy's tragic death, I was inundated with requests by media outlets to use the pics. I refused most, but agreed to those I felt were ethical. Some used my images anyway, as did some charities. Infringing copyright. Where I could, I tried to stop this.

Note to all: copyright matters.
Its there for a reason. Not just to make money. (I didnt, from this, nor would I). But to ensure fairness and accuracy.
If you take pics.. be certain of their use.
If you publish pics.. ask, first.
Equal and Inclusive representation matters
