It's been a while since a dog thread and I know that my Victorian friends are still trapped inside as are many of us susceptible to illness. Category is: dog breeds that make me happy just knowing they exist.
Starting off with Leonbergers. These absolute cuddle beasts can weigh up to 75kg. Here are Louie and Bono, two brothers that I recently photographed. They are accredited therapy dogs and visit aged care homes and hospitals. Aren't they perfection?
Golden retrievers. I mean. They're just always so happy. Here are a few that I've met recently: Ian, Ohana, and Willow. All very good dogs.
Australian shepherds! They are whip smart, extremely beautiful, and so friendly. Meet: Bailey, Lexa, and Merlin.
Boxers! They are so goofy and ridiculous. Meet: Billie, Mason, and Ginny
Hard to knock a Labrador. They're so reliably fun and I love their colour spectrum. Meet: Maddie, Max, Bailey, and baby Sarabi.
Pointers (in general) they are at once goofy and majestic. Meet baby Nala (a GSP x groodle mix) and Benson (a GSP)
Great Danes. The biggest boys who think they belong on your lap and trip over their own feet? Yes please. This is Scooby, he and his siblings were surrendered when his mum died 😭But he's living it up now
Greyhounds. Perfect ridiculous creatures. Love to cuddle. 10/10. This is Mako, who lives the best life after being adopted by a wonderful couple late last year. She's no longer scared of everything, she is very curious and friendly and loves cuddles. Also a fashion icon.
Cocker Spaniels. They're just the most fun, and beautiful. Hard not to smile in their presence. This is Charlie. He loves playing fetch and carrying more than one ball at a time. Isn't he beautiful?
Portuguese Podengo Pequenos are pretty rare. They're speedy little hounds bred initially for hunting rabbits. They have huge personalities. This is Kestrel, she doesn't look like most of them do as she has floppy ears. She's still the best girl.
Swedish Vallhunds. A corgi but in a wolf suit? Yes, yes, yes. This is Erik. He tries to be a good boy, but I'm told he fails. I don't believe it.
Whilst we're in the Northern Hemisphere-- Finnish Lapphunds! So pretty! Kivi is the 15yo one. Mishka and Flossy are 2 year old sisters.
Rescues aren't a breed so let me say kelpie x rescues! Meet: Titan, Ash, Luna and Duke.
Staffies. I love their smiles, I love their company. Meet: Dyson (yes, like the vacuum), Frankie, old boy Fred, and baby Spark.
There's not much more adorable than a baby beagle. This is Bella she was 11 weeks old when I met her.
Schnauzers. I just love them. I also always think of them as having heavy Scottish accents. Meet Murphy and his brother Dougall.
Bernese Mountain Dogs. I want a dozen. This is Bronte. She is a flawless dog.
Belgian shepherds are so pretty. This is Raven. How is this dog real?
And to finish for tonight, how good are big dog rescue pairs? Meet: Lawrence (GSP x Bull Arab) and Sabbath (Great Dane x Mastiff) the branch managers, Ranger and Ryder the Bull Arab brothers, Polly and Wilma who are ridgeback x mastiff siblings, a year apart.
Don't be sad if I didn't include your favourite. The best dog is the dog next to you right now.
