This has taken a lot of courage to post but it was important. This was me a year after I made a very traumatic decision in life and had an #abortion. It took me a whole year to find some solace in what I went through and how little support there was 1)
It was the right decision for me and my family but nevertheless it wrecked me, despite it being a choice. I was told not to talk about it because 'what will people say' and 'it will upset the family members'! The absolute stigma attached to #Abortion #Miscarriage, #Infertility 2)
...is nothing short of frightening. There is no streamlined service available through @bpas1968 or @NHS in Wales, to offer #counselling support to women going through this trauma. Yet another area for women to just 'Get On With It!'. 3)
I couldnt get on with it! I gained weight, became extremely unhealthy both emotionally and physically. Nothing brought me joy anymore and this continues for a whole year. I felt lifeless yet put a smile on my face and carried on because that's what K was expected to do. 4)
No part of this was okay. Hundreds of thousands of women are reeling with the havoc this wreaks on their lives everyday. Yet we are easily brushing it under the rug. A woman's #reproductivehealth doesn't end at the womb, it includes the #emotional and #psychologicalhealth too! 5)
I urge people to stop stigmatising, what is a very difficult and traumatic time in a woman's life. Talk about it, let her feel she is supported, that she is accepted. @fmwales you need to do more to help women going through this in the way of a dedicated service in Wales. 6)
