time to play my favorite game with the streaming service shudder, which is "guess which era the random movie you just clicked on is from"
my current guess for this movie, "The Evil" from the opening credits and quality of the film is mid-80's, but lighting and music choices suggest mid-late 70's. will update as i watch.
audio quality absolutely suggests 70's, tho that could be from a bad master or copy of an 80's movie. still inconclusive
i'm going to say 70's for now, but an actual year is harder to judge. from the VERY long opening credits over the film itself, i'd say it's not early 70's. like the film has started and i just got the screenplay credit. i'm gonna say, pure guess...1977 for now.
did you know it was actually against Film Rules in america to not have opening credits until the 80's? you COULD do it but doing so would essentially put you on the shitlist of pretty much the entire industry. doing that one act would basically blacklist you from every union.
star wars was hugely controversial at the time bc it didn't have opening credits. it couldn't get access to union anything bc of it, and many unions were outspoken against it bc they thought it was a bad precedent.
it's still up in the air if it was a bad precedent.

this movie fucking sucks in absolutely the best way btw
okay DEFINITELY 70's, there's a student/professor romantic relationship that is not even mildly critical of it
this movie is gradually becoming less entertaining but it might just be the slump between the beginning and the proper time when shit pops off. girl did just get a spooky italian book and is seeing visions of blacksmiths so there might be hope yet
LOWKEY RACISM FOLLOWED BY A FAKED HANGING AS A JOKE, WE'RE IN IT NOW
IMMOLATED CORPSE LOCATED
yknow it's gonna be good when a guy finds a secret basement hatch IN the basement that looks like a bear trap and is locked by a cross
especially when it opens and demons come out. movie is good again
they're trying to rationalize doors locking on their own, glass not breaking, and men being flung away from windows by nothing as "it's storming" and "static electricity is weird"
