Do you remember...! Today we start with the first #FridayPaleoart of september! 🕺

Cave: #Bolinkoba
Place: #Abadiño, Bizkaia, Spain
Piece: hammer
Motif: ibex
Chornology: #Magdalenian
Bolinkoba cave is located on the northern flank of the Anboto mountain range, at 65 m above the Asuntze stream and at 430 m a.s.l. Bolinkoba was discovered by J.M. Barandiarán in 1931 and it has a rich archaeological sequence ranging from Gravettian to Magdalenian-Azilian.
13 portable art objects have been discovered in the cave. Seven of them have been attributed to #Gravettian and they are too similar with other pieces found in Pyrenees, like “Isturitz” spear points... 🤔
The hammer was located at level III, attributed to the Lower Magdalenian. On one of its faces there are two goat depictions in left profile engraved with a lithic tool. On the other face, there are several engraved lines among which an incomplete goat depiction can be identified.
One of the goats has a very singular stylistic feature. It has a large circular eye from which the horns are projected backwards. The large eye and the way of drawing the horns, starting from the eye, is not very common in goat representation.🔬👀🔦
The decoration of functional objects like hammers with figurative motifs is a tipical trend during the cantabrian Magdalenian. There are several examples in nearby sites such as S. Catalina, Santimamiñe, Urtiaga or Ermittia: 👇😉
