A thread. So my wife’s Uncle Michael - her dad’s brother - has been working on their family history for years. He’s evidently had a bit more time to dig in recently, what with covid. Yesterday a package of papers arrived in the post from England.
Michael has gone way back.
First up, this one we’ve known about for a bit, but my wife’s grandma was related to the wife of Leofric, Earl of Mercia. That’s Lady Godiva, folks.
But it turns out there’s a bit more to say about her grandfather’s side of the family. I say a bit....
... and before I go on, we’re quite a tidy house here. But when folks come, there’s always extra effort and I make the same gag when people arrive. “Just to make sure, you’re not Royal are you?... cos we’ve cleaned the place like the Queen’s coming.”
Anyway, back to Michael’s efforts. He’s turned something up and let’s say my wife is pretty excited.
According to Michael, my wife is related to William the Conqueror and Henry I. If we’re coming, make sure you give the place a clean. End of thread.
