a guide/ thread of things for new hp stan twt members!!! rt pls

(1/15) welcome!! i’m so glad you decided to join hp stan twt. i made that decision a few months ago and it has changed my life (that sounds so dramatic but it’s true lmao). i’ve made life long friends here and have found a safe place to talk about my interests.

(2/15) i’m making this thread because i was SUPER overwhelmed when i first joined. everyone already knew each other, and i didn’t know how to make friends. there wasn’t a “guide” so i’m hoping this can be one, to some extent. this is based all on MY experience.

(3/15) the first thing to know is as great as it is here, there is drama sometimes. it’s easy to avoid this, just don’t say anything problematic and always be conscious of how your words might affect someone. because we are interacting through the shield of screens, people LOVE

(4/15) to act up on here sometimes. just stay out of it, if someone you know is starting something, don’t involve yourself, and don’t start anything yourself either (that’s obvious tho). if you do mess up, own up to your actions and apologize! we are all human.

(5/15) another thing- do not let antis make you feel bad for liking a specific character, and don’t make antis feel like they can’t have an opinion either. we all have our own opinions. for example, i love hermione but there’s a lot of hermione antis. their opinion is valid and-

(6/15) so is mine! like i said earlier, stay conscious of other’s feelings and don’t let someone else’s opinion stop you from speaking your mind.

(7/15) some basic things- ALWAYS put trigger warnings!!! if you’re unsure whether or not to put one, go ahead and do it just to be safe. twt should be a safe place for everyone and tw’s ensure that. even if something doesn’t trigger you personally, it could trigger someone else.

(8/15) now onto making friends. the biggest thing- JOIN. GROUPCHATS. you can make one yourself or join someone else’s (people will tweet ab them and tell you to reply to join, usually). interacting on the tl is fun, but gcs are the best way to make friends!!

(9/15) another thing- we have spells on here where it feels like hp twt is dead. a lot of people leave/talk about leaving, and if you’re new, it can seem scary/sad, because you just joined and you love it so far. during my first week or two here, hptwt was in one of those times-

(10/15) and i was SO confused because i was having a ton of fun. once you’ve been here longer you’ll start to understand it. idk why it happens, but it does. we just die sometimes people will leave, but others (like u) will join!! we’ve been in a dry spell lately but i feel-

(11/15) like we’re about to be hype again also, if one of your friends leaves, that’s ok!!!! one of my best friends i met on hp twt, and they’re no longer on here (they still have a twt account, just not hp). i miss them being on here ofc, but i still talk to her 24/7! don’t-

(12/15) feel anxious if people leave, and if you want to leave as well, don’t feel pressured to stay. one more thing- if you ship things like snamione, or if you stan people like snape, you’ll get cancelled. i don’t make the rules i feel like it’s obvious why-

(13/15) especially for snamione, but if you stan snape/dumbledore, please dm me and i can explain to you why that is toxic. when we first read the series a lot of us thought they deserved the redemption, so i’ll let you pass this time but fr dm me, if you stan them on this app-

(14/15) you will be shunned (and i hope you understand why). that’s pretty much it!!! PLS PLS PLS dm me if you need ANYTHING!! ik it may seem unnecessary to make a whole ass thread for this, but when i first joined i was so confused
