It’s no secret that I advocate for armed self-defense, but maybe some of you need a thread about how that looks in reality.
The law is imperfect, biased, unfairly applied, and overly punitive. This I do not dispute.

When you use a firearm in self-defense, you are subjecting yourself to that framework of law.

If you don’t like that, don’t carry.
Sometimes, the cost of an empowered community defense is subjecting yourself to an injust set of laws. We have to change that while also acknowledging it exists and won’t be changed overnight.
So that said, if you have to use a firearm in self-defense, here are things you should do, once the threat to your safety is past:
- safe your firearm
- render aid to the victim
- do not flee the scene
- do not speak to cops, emts, medics, or anyone without a lawyer
- do not call your bestie and tell them you killed someone
When using a firearm in self-defense, you have now put yourself into a months or years long process where the burden of proof is on you.

I’m not saying that’s right or just.

I’m saying that’s how it is.
If you don’t like this risk level, don’t carry.

Simple as that.

Usual disclaimers apply: i am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice but advice on how to not be a fucking edgelord in tense times
