The Dodgers have 8 players who they're paying $10mil+ in 2020 – including two $20mil+ and two $30mil+.
They've had a top 10 farm system for ages. Nobody is discrediting their homegrown talent - I think everyone is envious of their farm and intelligence when it comes to the draft. https://twitter.com/_therealdrose/status/1301581222347378688
But you know why they could trade for Mookie AND David Price? It wasn't just because they really wanted them. It was because they could take on those contracts.
You know why they still have Clayton Kershaw? Because they could offer him the best contract when he hit free agency.
The same goes for Jansen, Turner, and Pollock.
The Dodgers did not buy their team in the traditional sense. Their top tier roster is not made up entirely of guys they signed to massive contracts, luring them away from other teams when they hit free agency.
But give me a damn break. Let's not pretend that the Dodgers don't have a monetary advantage when it comes to putting together their team. Let's not pretend they'd have the same lineup with an 90 mil payroll vs a 135mil payroll (2021). (That would put them 15th for 2021.)
The Dodgers are my #2 team. I love the Dodgers. I love these guys. But this is some nonsense.
Just adding some pictures from my Orioles/Dodgers wedding because I love a good thread that gives me an opportunity to.
See! Definitely not a Dodgers hater.
