IF YOU DON'T KNOW, venerated music critic Rob Sheffield of Rolling Stone (!!!) has a ranking of all 153 Taylor Swift songs (not including folklore...yet). I will give you some of the highlights in this THREAD. (link to list will be at the end)
First of all, you should know Rob Sheffield LOVES Taylor Swift AND he understands pop music: from the Beatles to David Bowie, from Stevie Nicks to Mazzy Star. He knows what he is talking about. So the fact that he loves & respects Taylor as an artist is HUGE
ONE MORE THING: You will not agree with his ranking. And he knows it (see screengrab). So if you attack him on Twitter, I WILL DRAG YOU (not really, I have no power, but plz show the man some respect)
One thing Rob and I have in common is that we both thing Bad Blood are skips lol. It's the bottom of his list at #153
The crazy thing about this list is that starting from about #120 on the list, he isn't saying anything negative about the songs. They all just start being good.
Rob is able to do two things extremely well:
1. He can connect the dots of the songs in her discography
2. He puts them into the large musical context.
See how he does it with "Dancing With Our Hands Tied"
CHECK OUT WHAT HE SAYS AT #61!!!
I'm just adding this one because it's my stan song (and i think it was the gateway to #folklore )
YOU HAVE TO HEAR THIS ANECDOTE ABOUT "Fearless"!!!!
ANOTHER AMAZING ANECDOTE from when he first learned about Taylor Swift and her amazing songwriting gift
I'm sorry for adding so many but "this is gettin' good now." Look at this: He KNOWS taylor has the talent to keep writing for a long time
Rob is SO GOOD at describing succinctly what makes a Taylor Swift song SO GOOD (so much goodness!)
Okay let's just round up the top 5 here. Since I can only add 4 images, here are the four that have the best writing from Rob
#5 Lover
#3 Cruel Summer
#2 New Romantics
#1 All Too Well
