“assume good intent” == “give your credit card over the phone to anyone who calls you” level ignorance
i can only assume that men who lecture to “assume good intent” are doing it bc they’re tired of getting pushback
why on earth would you ever “ASSUME good intent”??? it’s a deliberate shutting off of your innate power to:

look at the behavior in context
ask yourself if it’s consistent
interrogate what they gain
outright ask them
i’ve made a literal career out of not “assuming good intent” and it’s made me so much money than people who are “nice” https://twitter.com/amyhoy/status/959595663414743041?s=21 https://twitter.com/amyhoy/status/959595663414743041
there’s no reason to assume ANY intention at ALL when an everyday procedural mistake happens, esp among strangers. coffee? package mixup? etc. shit happens.

UNLESS it’s a pattern. like i said above: context.

the people tweeting “assume good intent!!” are startup dudes so it’s being presented as *business* advice and that’s malpractice

we’re not talking like, a friend not being suitably enthusiastic about your new project-type shit
bad: “assume good intent”

ok: “don’t look for offense where there is none”

best: “trust but verify” + “when people show you who they are, believe them”
