I know people tend to fixate on the negative reactions in this game but can I just say
there is no purer joy than seeing a sprout who doesn't know their class or the game very well, giving them some tips, and watching them actively improve over the course of a dungeon
we had a baby tank in vault the other day who didn't know what a cd was, so I told them to pop a basic one during pulls to make them easier, then gave them a quick rundown of their pld cooldowns, what they do and when to use them. And they actually listened to my advice
they became significantly easier to heal and started doing big pulls cause they could survive them
they also thanked me in say chat and I was just like Hell Yeah You're Gonna Go Places Little Guy
In my experience sprouts have always been either willing to listen to advice, especially since I always try to be kind when giving it, or at worst not say anything and just ignore it.
And often times they're super grateful for a bit of patience and guidance.
(sadly I can also confirm that, at least on crystal, when I've had to deal with someone being an asshole, every single time they've had some combination of: multiple maxed out classes, a mentor crown, or one of the legend titles.)
And I do Not mean "they tried to be helpful but had a nuetral tone and someone got defensive" I mean actual malignant asshole behavior like bullying and berating new players for simple mistakes, throwing hissy fits when you try to be helpful, sabotaging the party out of spite
And I've personally known people who've been harassed in-game by parsers using their numbers against them on non-endgame content
on the flipside, I've met and personally know ultimate, savage, and other high-end raiders who are super nice, patient, willing to help and teach. And I have friends who parse that only use it to improve their own gameplay.
this thread got way off topic and rambly so I guess what I'm trying to say is
sprouts are often willing to learn if you're kind about how you provide advice. There's always going to be assholes and sadly a LOT of them are wannabe high end players with a better than thou attitude
but there's also high end players who Are super nice, and tbh I think most of the assholes just have inflated egos

tl;dr this community has good and bad, and while there are reasons for some stereotypes, just try to Be Excellent to Eachother
