I’ve been away from Twitter for a couple weeks now, and I told myself I would keep my tweets about medicine…but I got married last week and I’m so happy I couldn’t help myself anymore 😊 1/
We talk about, “the grind” in academic medicine w/o recognizing the grind of our lives, families, relationships. These, “grinds” coexist AND co-mingle

Our lives inform our practice and we shouldn’t try to block its influence in what we do as physicians 2/
I profess a love of clinical medicine, reasoning, and helping learners find and unlock their potential. This is a DIRECT extension of my life experiences as a violinist, an engineer, and a partner in a relationship. 3/
All of these pursuits were and are filled with curiosity, inquiry, and a need for deliberate practice. It’s said that nothing in life comes easy. That includes life itself and the relationships we form and keep. 4/
I am lucky that I’m married to my wife (wow, still gives me chills). We’ve had to practice our relationship for a bit longer than we’d thought we would or would have liked to, but the fruit borne of our efforts is pure nectar

Now, three wise encounters: 5/
My brother-in-law told me that the realization and joys of marriage can be likened to a, “slow burn”, one that gently incorporates all the flavors and textures to produce a final product which, over time, develops a captivating taste and character 6/
A mentor told me that expertise in medicine and reasoning comes slowly, with time, and with practice. 7/
A medical school essay asked, “What does it mean to be part of a profession?” I replied that a profession is something that with time, will likely become the lens through which one examines the world 8/
My life and my profession are inexorably linked. The, “slow burn” of my path to medicine and my new and expectedly evolving marriage have and will continue to inform who I am, how I grow in my practice, and how I view the world. 9/
So, I end here.

I may not tell a story like @TheRealDoctorT, turn a phrase like @sargsyanz, or use my words to connect life to practice like @gradydoctor, but I can tell you this:

I am happy. 10/fin
