I’ve been living in Glendale for a few years now and love it. If you have kids or are just bored and looking for some fun outdoor sightseeing to do, I thought I’d give you a few of my favorite places:
The Glendale Narrows. Bike and walking path with an overlook to the LA River, where you can usually see herons, egrets, ducks, and more. Also horse stables off the path so you can maybe spot a pony or two.
The Grand Central Air Terminal. You have to look at this through a fence, but there’s a lot of history here. Amelia Earhart and Howard Hughes both flew out of here.

Imagineers building is across the street so you can look in spot figures on the desks.
Go up Grandview to Brand Park and check out the Japanese Tea House, or hike back to look at the Brand Family’s pyramid mausoleum.
Nearby, at the intersection of Bruce and Olmsted, there’s a row of trees with tiny gnome doors at the base. Like a little village. Haven’t spotted the gnomes.
You can stop for coffee at Commissaru, vegan yogurt at Yoga-Urt, or pastries at the French Bakery in Kenneth Village.
Next, you can head to Casa Adobe De San Rafael, which I think was the first house in Glendale.
Verdugo Park is over by the community college, there’s a cool skate park, tons of parrots, and lots of open green space.
Not far from there is Catalina verdugo Adobe, which is another historic house where some important treaty was signed or something but anyway, what I love about it is that it’s a tiny, shady park filled with lizards and benches to sit and take in the silence.
If you’re up for a hike, the Beaudry Loop trail goes to the top of Tongva Peak and Mt. Thom. Long and hot and all uphill, but on clear days you can see 360 views and clear to the ocean.
One more fun kind of hidden park is Mayor’s Bicentennial Park, also near the college. On the edge of some woods, I’ve seen mule deer up there from time to time.
On Chevy Chase you can check out the Derby House, designed by Lloyd Wright, which I didn’t know was there until @LACarlos posted a pic of it. But I’d driven by it a hundred times on my way to...
Wild Oak Cafe, next door to the Chevy Chase Country Club. Converted gas station into a cafe, all outdoor seating, well spaced, and one of my favorite breakfast burritos in all of Los Angeles. Feels like you’re hanging out in the woods.
Deukmejian Wilderness Park. Great trails, easy for families, very little effort for beautiful views.
Take a stroll down Honolulu in Montrose, tons of cool stuff there.
On the other side of town, you can check out Forest Lawn Cemetery and week where Walt Disney is laid to rest.
Too many food rec’s for this thread but there’s a lot of great stuff here.

If you’ve got a Glendale fave, feel free to add it!
