Build your list

Buy your freedom sending emails

/*THREAD*/
First and foremost, you should know that there are people making a living out of email lists

A good email marketer can get $1 per month per subscriber
A list is an asset that you own, that can never be taken away from you

It's probably the closest thing to a money printer machine

You write an email, you hit send, and you collect the money
Let's break down the process

I will take you from zero to having a list with happy subscribers

These are the 7 core steps that you should take

Read carefully going forward

Warning: There's a great chance you will want to build yours right away
Step 1 - Software

Pick the lucky email marketing platform that will host your leads.

It will serve you as the backend of your email business

Recommendations:

@ConvertKit
@getresponse
@gumroad

There are a lot more but these I've used and vouch for
Step 2 - Landing page

You need a way to add people into your list, this is the front-end platform

This is where your copy skills come in hand to write a persuasive text that leads people to write their email down

If you don't have copywriting skills, don't worry
Step 3 - Lead Magnet

Use reciprocity to collect emails

Offer something valuable for everyone that subscribes to your email list (for free)

You can deliver that in the very first email right after they opt-in
Simple yet efficient lead magnet examples:

- eBook (pdf)
- Pieces of paid content
- Sequence of valuable email
- Webinar access
- Access to your newsletters

Everyone on any niche could make something for free on any of these models

Let's move on
Step 4 - Welcome Series

The three email marketing platforms that I've mention allow you to do automation

You can create a sequence of pre-written emails that will be sent to every new subscriber

How long should it be?

That's up to you...
I personally like to go with 7 to 15 emails in consecutive days

You can space them as you want, just make sure the list don't forget about you

If you can't write that much content at once, just do a shorter one and update as you go
Your welcome series is powerful because it gives you a chance to let your list know you at a more deeper level

Introduce yourself

Let the person know what they can expect from you

Tell your list your personal story, and nurture them with high quality information
At the middle and end of your welcome series, you can start pitching your offers

Just make sure they come packaged with a lot of high valuable free information before trying to close the sale
Step 5 - Newsletter

The persons who goes through all the welcome series will probably want to earn from you moving forward

(Else they would have unsubscribed)

This is where you choose your email newsletter frequency

Again, up to you
The most common models I see are:

Daily emails
Bi-weekly emails
Weekly emails

This is up to your level of confidence in creating content and amount of time you want to dedicate to your list

Remember, it is worth gold
Step 6 - Dissecting the emails

Your email is composed by 4 to 5 distinct parts:

1. Subject line
2. Body
3. Call to action
4. P.S
5. Sign-off

Everything has a purpose and should be used accordingly
Your subject line purpose is to get your emails opened

Seriously, you could have the best email ever, but if your subject line sucks, no one will read it

Make it bold, intriguing, dramatic

Whatever best serves you, but don't, any under circumstances, be boring
Next

The body of your email should contain the juicy

A story filled with emotion and metaphors that teach something

Golden Nuggets that people can take away and apply

Questions and quotes that make people think (check @JamesClear newsletters)

Find your own method of choice
CTA

What's the purpose of your email?

Do you want a link click to a product?
Do you want your reader to learn something on the web?
Do you want a response back?
Do you want them to unsubscribe? (list hygiene)

Have a purpose and a clear call to action
P. S.

My favorite part

We're all filled with 1,373 emails in our inbox

We just can't read every single email

The ones we find worth opening, we scroll down to the end just to feed off our curiosity

That's where the P. S. comes in handy
Tell people what the email was about and use it as a CTA to fulfill the purpose of that email
Lastly, sign-off

Say goodbye, to your list

Keep it personal and close

After all, you're chatting and writing to a real person behind the screen
Step 7 - Optimize metrics

From time to time check your open and click rates

Aim for 30%+ open rates and 3-5%+ click rates

Change subject line for better open rates

Change call to action for better click rates
That was a long one

Seriously just start your list

You're always one email away from making hundreds of dollars

Last two things that I forgot:

1. Promote it frequently to your pre-existing audience
2. Use it when you want to launch new products (search jeff walker)
That's it ladies and gentlemen

Shameless self promotion, but I'm currently sending emails to a list that I'm building on gumroad

It comes with a free ebook and $100's worth of information in the welcome series
