Some women who know about feminism respect mothers, including stay at home mothers, as people who do valuable work that we refuse to join others in disrespecting. https://twitter.com/sally_hines/status/1301627658023952385
There’s an unfortunate tendency to confuse people with their work, or what they’re around all the time. Consider how sanitation workers may be as disrespected as the refuse they take away, rather than being appreciated for the tidy cities and towns they make for us.
For mothers, they often get conflated with the children they raise, looked down on and infantilized by other adults as if they were children themselves. But being a primary carer for children requires extraordinary patience, self-control, and maturity, to do well.
If we like having civilized adults all around us, we should respect and appreciate the mothers—we know it’s mostly mothers—who make it possible.
