As an ER doctor on the frontlines in NYC, the reason 20,000 died in 10 weeks is due to TRUMP, not @NYCMayor or @NYGovCuomo. Trump is the President of the US which includes NY. HE ignored the pandemic playbook given to him by @JoeBiden & @BarackObama
This makes me so angry because @NYCMayor and @NYGovCuomo took drastic measures to save 10,000s of lives. They shut down NYC, think about that. We were intubating 20-30 patients a day in our emergency rooms in 1 hospital. Multiply that across the entire city.
Fortunately I was at a wealthy hospital that planned ahead in February, restricted travel and stocked up on PPE, but other colleagues at county hospitals did not have PPE and got sick and died.
Trumps plan was to build a wall around New York City and let us die.
While healthcare workers in NYC begged for Personal Protective Equipment because we were getting sick and dying, Trump used the Defense Production Act to keep MEAT FACTORIES open, but not to make more Personal Protective Equipment.
As a result of not having adequate PPE because Trump failed to heed the warnings of Dr. Bright and follow the pandemic playbook, nursing home workers lacked PPE and 1,000s of nursing home residents got sick & died from COVID.
I would argue no other city in the world was hit as hard by COVID than New York City. I served in Iraq as a hospital corpsman, and that paled in comparison to the havoc, death and grief brought on by this deadly virus, which is obviously lost on Trump who only cares about numbers
