The silence from white academics on my TL concerning Jessica Krug is deafening, especially because the academy is historically structurally violent against Black women.
Black women are told that they are not objective enough to focus on race studies, especially in quantitative fields. This white woman poses as a [light-skinned] Black woman and moves through, no questions asked, studying race.

I'm seething.
I am frustrated because white women like Jessica Krug get press and attention for lying about being Black women while ACTUAL Black women get nothing and we didn't lie.

#BlackinTheIvory is being punished for being yourself while a white person is awarded for posing as you.
The academy is built on white supremacy and Jessica Krug is just a symptom of a system that continues to undermine Blackness in the face of scholarship.

Y'all don't care about Black people unless they look like you, act like you, or try to be like you. That's f*cked up.
#BlackintheIvory means that you have to worry about your colleagues potentially posing as you to get ahead, while your non-Black colleagues can continue as business as usual.

I hate it here.
