Always be skeptical of stories that lack any on-the-record sources that tell you exactly what you want to hear.

There is no way any reputable newspaper would have gone with a piece like that 20 years ago. Four alleged sources all go to The Atlantic to tell this remarkable tale. Not one will go on record. Not one brought this up until the campaign.

When I was a reporter I had to explain, in great detail, to my editor why I needed to use one unnamed source on my local yokel stories. Nowadays you can claim the president mocked dead soldiers without a single one. And everyone will report it as fact.
