Have just received a message from a pregnant lady which has broken my heart and I couldn't not try and raise her points as they are very valid.
Why, in the midst of the valid noise about pubs etc, is nobody talking about maternity care and the raw deal pregnant women are getting?
This lady today had a very difficult and stressful appointment, alone without her partner. She felt her care was cold (a story for another day) and said she left the appointment and cried in her car.
I know she is not alone - I speak to these women every single day.
If we can make cases for restaurants, for pubs, for schools et al. When we weigh up risk (particularly to vulnerable expectant mothers M.H.) vs benefits - are they not getting a raw deal? Who is voicing their concerns? Where are our TDs who claimed to care about maternity care?
I cannot see a strong argument for leaving women without partners through early stages of inductions and labour, at important and often stressful apts such as anomaly scans etc.
They may not have the weight of the vintners association but they deserve more support.
Can we please try and raise their cause - if anyone has any suggestions of someone who can perhaps get this looked at I would appreciate it.
My heart is broken for this woman and all the others pregnant, birthing and postpartum, who are suffering right now.
Just wanted to say the response to this has been overwhelming. My inbox is bursting - stories that would send you into a heady rage. Thank you all - and keep them coming. I hope to link those willing to share their story with those in media to see if we can trigger some change!
