when i first read the hunger games series and saw how katniss & people from the seam were described i was so ecstatic. hearing that they had dark hair, olive skin, and high cheekbones had to be the greatest thing 11yr old me could possibly think of. for my entire life i have +

struggled with coming to grips with the fact that native american (women especially!) have little to no representation in the media & when we do it is often in a historical film or depicts us incorrectly. +

i had never before read a book where a girl who looked like me just existed, didn’t have to be a historical figure or a “wise old woman,” just existed. naturally, i was even more thrilled to find out that katniss was biracial, just like me. +

when i joined thg twitter, i began to hear comments like “you like you belong in the seam” and that to me was the biggest compliment i could have received. never before have i looked like “i belong somewhere” because i have light skin but other distinct native features, +

i have always felt like i don’t belong in either community but hearing that i do look like i belong somewhere (even if it is fictional) was so amazing. when i read tbosas, i almost jumped out of my chair when lucy gray baird started to discuss “her people”+

and how they traveled around, there once again was the native representation i had been looking for my whole life. as soon as i finished i knew i had to find a way to audition for her. so i looked every single day for an open casting call for her but could not find one, +

so one of my groupchats and i came up with this idea to ask @songbirdssnakes to please have open auditions for lucy gray baird (if you haven’t casted her already!!) +

especially since a lot of native girls (not just me) can not afford to get an agent or manager but we still deserve some representation. if you all could tag @songbirdssnakes @TheHungerGames it would mean everything to me!! thank you for listening!! <333
