Thanks to the diligence of 2 hardworking, upcoming journalists & their friends, Mr (sorry, Ambassador Dr) Kwame Fordjour's UN award scam has been exposed. Here is how it happened. [A Thread]
2 - 3 months ago, @IamKarimGh stumbled on news of the fake award presented to the UG VC. He shared this news with @BoakyeNIsaac, @KojoTelfer, @alltheway_ap & @followeryk. This group conducted their own preliminary investigations, but could not contact Mr Foudjour for his comments
They managed to contact a source at a top media house, who was in touch with Mr. Fordjour. In a recorded phone interview, Mr. Fordjour was incoherent, beat about the bush & failed to confirm his claims on his website & the authenticity of his UN Awards. It was clear he was fake.
Even though the group pressured this media house, they didn't publish the story (for unknown reasons). As the group decided on what to do, they saw some media people & celebrities posting pictures of a certain "prestigious UN/Kofi Annan" award. They decided to take a closer look
Lo & behold, it was the ever smiling, Covid-19 rapping, gold chain wearing Mr. Fordjour. They decided that enough was enough. Yesterday, @BoakyeNIsaac reached out to me with the details. I was amazed because senior extraordinary factchecker Johnnie Hughes was in the mud as well.
One quote on Johnnie Hughes' tweet, led to more questions. People started checking, then more pictures surfaced. In hindsight, everybody wonders how legendary Mr. Fordjour with his suits and ties was able to scam all these top names. We may never know. But one thing is clear...
..where the big men & top names failed, it was a group of young people who uncovered the fraud. Young can do, young can lead. As we make the jokes, lets remember no one is too big to fall victim to scams.
There was an attempt to notify senior man @OtiAdjei but being a senior man, he probably didn't see it. Today, he says we ALL failed to verify. Accountability
