Why the 3rd of September 2017 was (and still is) one of the best days of my life - a thread:
Although meeting Neil Tennant was the best thing about this day for me, I had quite an eventful day before this happened, LOL! I say that, as during the day,we visited North Shields too.
Some of you may wonder, "Exactly what does visiting North Shields have to do with Neil Tennant?" and I'll explain. It's his home town. I'd been dying to visit there for years, but my mum thought I was crazy for wanting to visit there just because of it being NT's hometown. 🙄
Yes, I knew that I was likely never going to run into him there, but I wanted to be able to say that I'd visited his hometown, LMTBO. Thankfully, I finally had my wish granted by my aunt on this day 3 years ago. It's a nice place & I'm glad I can say I've spent some time there.
I can't remember too much about what we did when were there. I know we took a ferry, explored some sights and we stopped off to have a drink in a pub too. I also remember getting the CD of Moon Safari by Air in a Poundland there, which is an album that I know NT loves very much.
You wouldn't think that on paper, us visiting somewhere like North Shields would take up the best part of the day, but it kinda did when you factor in the transport, LOL! 😃🤣 My aunt also enjoyed visiting North Shields + understood why I wanted to spend time there. 😃👍
We then spent some time in the evening getting ready to go out, not only for dinner, but also the PSB gig. 😃 In the case of dinner, we had it somewhere not too far away from the Sage, which is where PSB happened to be playing that night. 🙂
We both enjoyed our meal & were glad to have our dinner somewhere not too far away from the venue. I also remember that upon us getting ready to leave, somebody who happened to be attending that concert recognised me from Twitter & mentioned to me + my aunt about the stage door.
Of course, upon this person telling us about the stage door, we decided that we would spend some time after the concert waiting outside it to see if Neil would come out/engage with fans. I'll talk about that in more detail later on in the thread. Next, I'll move onto the gig. 🙂
I mentioned that on this day, I saw PSB live at the Sage, which is a venue in Gateshead, not too far away from Newcastle. It's a really nice venue, one that's definitely perfect for a band like PSB. 😃 I got some merch & I also happened to meet another PetHead I knew from Twitter!
I still do follow/stay in touch with this person, but it has entered my head that I haven't spoken to them for a bit. I should rectify that sometime. 🙂 Anyway, they handed me a brochure about PSB's Super Tour shows in Gateshead, which is what Neil would later go on to sign for me.
After getting some merchandise (namely a lanyard/T-Shirt) & meeting some PetHeads, it was time for the actual concert, which was amazing! I took quite a few photos, which I posted a massive thread of the following day upon me heading home & I sang along to pretty much every song.
My aunt isn't even a massive fan of PSB the way I am, but she still had a great time at this concert too and she understands why I love them so much. She also enjoyed seeing me so happy to not only see Neil Tennant, but to see me singing along to all the songs too. 😃🤣😍
Some of the many song highlights go to the following:
Love Is A Bourgeois Construct
Home And Dry
The Dictator Decides
Love Etc.
West End Girls
Inside A Dream
Vocal
The Pop Kids
Left To My Own Devices
NYC Boy
Love Comes Quickly (which my aunt took a video clip of on her phone.)
It was a fantastic show all round & I was on cloud Tennant as a result! 😍 I didn't want it to end, but of course I know all good things come to an end eventually. 😢 Luckily though, this wonderful night wasn't over quite yet...and I'll cover why that was at this point now. 😉🤣
So I mentioned earlier that another PetHead mentioned to me and my aunt about waiting outside the stage door to see if I could meet Neil Tennant. That's exactly what we did after the concert ...and we were waiting for (no joke) an hour and a half before he came out. 🤣🤣🤣
I will admit that in ways that's kinda crazy. But a lot things worked in our favour, the weather wasn't awful, it wasn't cold and we were staying in a hotel that was very close to the venue. If it wasn't for all that, we likely wouldn't have wanted to wait outside at all. 🙄
So Neil Tennant finally comes outside from the stage door. Funnily enough, my aunt notices him coming out before me, LOL! 😃🤣 She of course had to approach Neil on my behalf, as I remember being too starstruck/nervous at the thought of me trying to do so myself. 🙄🤣
I remember she said to Neil along the lines of, "Would you mind kindly signing this brochure for my niece Rosie? She's a massive fan of you/PSB." I think she did a good job of making it clear to him that I was the mega PSB fan, not her. He did so & also said hello to me. 😃😍😘❤️
I know to many of you that doesn't sound like a lot on paper, but Neil doing both these things was enough to make my whole night. I found it very difficult to speak, as I couldn't believe I was actually in front of NT, but I just about managed to say "thank you" to him. 😃🤣😍😘❤️
The only thing that could've made this night even more amazing would've been if I'd been able to get a photo of him. But I do know that PSB don't do photos with fans very often, plus I could also tell that Neil looked tired after a long night & I didn't want to pester him. 🙂😢
My aunt thought that was wise & she also didn't want to mess up what may be the only chance I get to meet him, which I also understand. Yes,it does kinda make me sad that I'll likely never get my photo taken with Neil, but it's OK. An autograph is better than nothing if you ask me.
After my brief (but also wonderful meeting experience with Neil Tennant) - the next thing I remember that I was so high from it that I flew down the hill of the venue! I think some people may have seen me & thought, "Why the heck is she so high?" but who cares? LMTBO. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I also remember that it took me forever to get to sleep upon us getting back to the hotel room, because I was so blissfully happy from meeting my idol. I mentioned my experience + shared a photo of Neil's signature on social media & I remember getting lots of comments all round!
If my memory is correct, I don't think I went to sleep until around 2am or something like that, LOL! Even then, I didn't sleep much. Much to my surprise though, I thankfully wasn't too tired the next day. Things were mostly quite uneventful as we were heading back home then. 🤣
Upon getting back home the next day though, 2 big things happened. Firstly,I listened to the PSB demo of The Loving Kind for the first time & I remember I played about 8 times in a row! That's how much I loved it/how happy I was for it to finally be released! 😃😍😭🤣💖💙👍
The 2nd thing that happened was that we got a frame for my PSB brochure that Neil signed, as I wanted to keep such a prized possession looking good. 😃 To this day, I still have it framed & next to my bed, namely on the left side so that I can see it when I go to sleep/wake up.
You can also likely imagine that I sleep very well a lot of the time with this signed brochure next to my bed/this special day on my mind a lot too. Anytime I feel low, I think back to this wonderful day and the memories associated with it. 😃👍
So yeah, that's basically the story of why the 3rd of September 2017 is an important day for me & how I met Neil Tennant. 🙂 I didn't think that such a thing would ever happen to me in a million years, but there you go. This is proof that dreams can indeed come true. 😃🤣😍😘💖💙👍
