One more giant fuckall day being stuck in a disgusting quality PPE, drenched in sweat, trying not to throw up and being angry at the administration. TO EVERYONE REJOICING THE OPENING UP OF THE CITY - STFU!
No one gives a rats ass about what our state is inside this useless piece of equipment.
Everyone& #39;s tired of complaining and just generally so tired.
Service to humanity gaya bhaad main
And then eventually do overtime and walk back to the hotel, and then throw up thrice and be the sufferer of a migraine. Nice.
If one more person tells me how this pandemic is a blessing in disguise !
The thin line of dry light blue patch you see in the picture is because that& #39;s only the part that dried after sitting next to a table fan for sometime. The entire 7 hours today in this was horrifyingly dizzying. And if you think I& #39;m exaggerating, may I invite you to try one?
There are no coolers, we can& #39;t get out of here before it& #39;s time for our shift to end, we have to do our job no matter how sick we feel, there& #39;s no water bottles when we get out, no electrolyte for us to rehydrate, sanitiser machines are faulty in the PPE doffing zone..
Two nurses fainted from the heat today, and the admin continues to be still thinking in terms of planning better services. The food is shit. Just because we are in a 5 star hotel doesn& #39;t mean we get any of their services.
The bed and bathroom is the only solace in the hotel.
The shifts of staff is messed up. We doctors end up doing our jobs and their jobs sometimes because understaffed! Most haven& #39;t received pay in 2 months here. Imagine those whose sole income is from here!
And if we complain, the response is there is enough being done, please adjust while none of these admin people ever have to enter wards and work for long hours.
Might I remind you, the pay is abysmal. So no most of us are not even doing this for the money, there is a genuine shortage of doctors and a large influx of patients. And it& #39;s our duty so we don& #39;t need need reminding of how we need to be out there doing our bit, thanks.
Everyday there is a different quality of PPE, or masks keep changing. Nothing is ever consistent. Not even the admin nor even the protocol. Doctors are thrown at the deep end of things without adequate time or prep.
So if you arent a quick learner or smart or good at your clinicals, you& #39;re done for.
And if you& #39;re a junior or an intern, you& #39;re definitely done for. I still have a solid clinical experience.
No amount of RTs is going to change anything just like our healthcare and medical education system hasn& #39;t in all these years. It& #39;s a toxic system.
Also the authorities have realised they have run out of money to pay the BMC doctors / interns they have directed here on Covid duty. They haven& #39;t received their salaries in 6 months. Most haven& #39;t since the facilities started.
So imagine a nurse or a wardboy or a caretaker who hasn& #39;t gotten paid yet and is the sole earner in the family. I don& #39;t know where the money that comes in from sponsors goes.
We keep hearing about them receiving goods for doctors from sponsors and it never reaches the doctors. EVER. Not even a pencil or an eraser for that matter.
Even after three months of starting the facility there is no plan of action or change in scheme of things. Jaise chalta hai chalne do. Everything in the news is just show shine.
So please keep your recovery rate data and colourful graphs in your pocket and sit down in a corner. You have no idea what you& #39;re talking about. Come sit with me in a ward in a PPE for 6 hrs without fainting and then we shall talk. Okay?
And if you tell me, oh but this what you signed up for when you decided to be a doctor, I will smack you with a cast iron dosa pan for sure.
And if you tell me, oh so you get to stay in a five-star hotel and you want good salary also and you want safety also? Too much you& #39;re asking no? We stay here for safety of our family members and not out of choice or for fun.
The food is decent on some days and some days it& #39;s downright horrible. Imagine coming back from your shift, hungry and exhausted and finding the veggies undercooked in the curry they packed in the meal box, or the porridge gone sour.
Then you have the option of ordering in so you have to wait another good hour until that food arrives and then eat and fall into bed. Literally fall asleep in seconds out of sheer exhaustion.
I& #39;m here in duty orders for a month and no matter how much praise I get I will not extend my stay in this thankless place. No chance in hell. Our system doesn& #39;t create a healthy space for health workers, what else is left?!
Are our lives that cheap? Are our lives that undignified and unimportant? That the conversation amongst doctors is ab kya hi hoga, infection hoga toh dekh lenge yar, jeene do zara, bacha hi kya hai?
Those on fulfilling bond or under the bmc have no choice but to do THIS. Those who don& #39;t have another running source of income in such times, do THIS.
Some of us do it voluntary, don& #39;t ask why, it& #39;s actually because we believe in doing our job when it matters the most even if it means working in such a toxic system.
They actually celebrated treating 5000 patients at this facility today and successfully passing some inspection lord knows how that happened. And I have to haul my dehydrated ass to work at 2am thanks.
