The NHL just announced a lot of Diversity and Inclusion measures. It& #39;s a lot to unpack, but most of it seems focused on listening and learning. https://media.nhl.com/public/news/14300">https://media.nhl.com/public/ne... https://twitter.com/PR_NHL/status/1301588524676853761">https://twitter.com/PR_NHL/st...
The NHL will now have mandatory diversity training for all players starting with the 2020-2021 season.
The NHL will also mandate training for league employees. Out of this entire long list, it seems to be the only new initiative.
Plus, as an "action step" the NHL will develop a Hotline to report misconduct. This is the same Hotline that was first mentioned late last year as a response to Akim Aliu& #39;s allegations. It still hasn& #39;t been developed.
Most notable is that the NHL hired diversity consultants to work with the Executive Inclusion Committee, which is probably the best thing to do.
Finally, contrast the plan the NHL put forth with the asks that were made by the @TheOfficialHDA. You& #39;ll see the gap that remains between where players of color want the league to be, and where they are. https://twitter.com/TheOfficialHDA/status/1299909652407373824">https://twitter.com/TheOffici...
The NHL really padded this Diversity and Inclusion announcement like undergrads pad college papers because they just gotta fill for space or hit a word count.
