. @FiveThirtyEight puts the odds of a tied #ElectoralCollege at .48%, but it's certainly a plausible possibility. And as long as we're plunging down this particular rabbit hole...a quick #thread. 1/ https://twitter.com/Redistrict/status/1301194644974374913
If the House has to settle a deadlocked election, each state gets one vote; it takes a majority (26 states to win). 26 delegations currently have a GOP majority, to 23 for Democrats; Pennsylvania is tied. But it's the newly elected House that would resolve any deadlock. 2/
Don Young (R) is 87 years old and Alaska's only House member. He won by 7 points two years ago and has a rematch this year, which @CookPolitical and @LarrySabato both rate Leans Republican. If Young loses, the GOP is down to 25. FL, KS and MT are also one plausible flip away. 3/
Also, the House chooses from the top 3 vote-getters. There were 7 faithless electors last time; Colin Powell would have been on the House ballot had there been one. But leaving that aside, in this scenario, if all delegations vote party lines, no one has a majority. 4/
The Senate, meanwhile, chooses the VP, one vote per Senator. Faithless electors aren't a factor here; the Senate chooses from the top two. So we could get President Pence or President Harris. 5/
Alabama's Doug Jones (D) is considered the most vulnerable senator. Let's say he loses, but Democrats pick up four of their targets -- Colorado, Arizona, North Carolina and Maine, say.

Now the Senate is 50-50. Greetings, President Pelosi. 6/
Circling back to where we started: this is all really unlikely, a fraction of what's already an unlikely .48%. But none of the individual components is implausible. 7/
Final note -- these were 538's probabilities as of yesterday:

Biden wins popular and electoral vote: 70%
Trump wins popular and electoral vote: 17.4%
Trump loses popular vote but wins electoral vote: 12.5%
Biden loses popular vote but wins electoral vote: .1%
